How we teach

A school for massage therapists, not an academy

At the Templo del Masaje school we train through practical, high-performance programmes. We focus on students feeling what a good massage is, not on repeating steps mechanically: during the courses every technique is both given and received, because you have to feel it to be able to perform it.

Our courses are not designed to turn you into a professional in one weekend. They are designed so you find out whether you enjoy it and want to keep training, with enough judgement and grounding to decide whether to use it at home or go for a professional career. We do not sell courses with endless hours and theory you will never use.

All programmes are designed and directed by Maribel Corpa with her team of massage therapists. At the end we issue a certificate accrediting the training. We also organise tailor-made courses on request, if there is a minimum group of students.

The teachers

Who teaches you

Our in-person courses are taught by massage therapists from the team who see clients every week at our centres in Madrid. They teach you what they do in the treatment room, and they teach it in front of you, correcting your hands.

Maribel Corpa, co-founder of Templo del Masaje and head of teaching at the school

Co-founder · Head of teaching

Maribel Corpa

Qualified chiromassage therapist and one of the three co-founders of Templo del Masaje (2005). She is head of teaching at the school: she designs the programmes and personally trains the team’s massage therapists.

Over 20 years of practice with her own clients, combining Eastern and Western technique: chiromassage, foot reflexology, manual lymphatic drainage, facial acupuncture and Chi Nei Tsang.

Cristina Ortiz, teacher of the introduction to massage course

Introduction · Sports · Pregnancy

Cristina Ortiz

Qualified chiromassage therapist specialising in sports massage and muscle rehabilitation: Cyriax, post-exercise recovery, functional taping and pregnancy massage.

Her approach is very technical. She focuses on biomechanics and on the therapist’s own posture, which is what keeps your hands and back from ending the day overloaded.

Julieth Pineda, massage teacher at Templo del Masaje

Massage · Eastern · Facial

Julieth Pineda

Massage therapist and beautician at Templo del Masaje since 2017, now at our Princesa centre. Over these years she has given thousands of sessions, more than 500 of them Kobido.

Few therapists on the team cover so many techniques, Western and Eastern, and she is one of those who train new colleagues when they join.

Method

Why you learn by giving and receiving

We train through practical, high-performance learning programmes with several levels. You learn the most useful massage techniques from therapists who do this every day in the treatment room, not from teachers who have not touched anyone in years.

No prior knowledge or experience is needed. The dynamism of the method, constantly changing and evolving, lets us pay attention to each student’s needs and tailor the training: someone learning for home is not the same as someone considering doing this for a living.

During the courses students give and receive every technique. Feeling it is essential to perform the manoeuvres correctly: you cannot give a massage you have never received. That is why groups are small and why none of our courses is theory only.

We have courses in several techniques, from introduction to massage to shiatsu and foot reflexology. And we organise tailor-made courses on request whenever there is a minimum group of students: if you are looking for something specific that is not in the catalogue, ask us.

Who it is for

For anyone who really wants to learn

For anyone who wants to give good massages at home, for beauty and massage professionals broadening their techniques, and for anyone considering doing this for a living. Basic courses require no prior experience; for the advanced ones —sports massage, lymphatic drainage, kobido— a grounding in anatomy and manual techniques is advisable.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about the courses

Are the courses in person or online?

We offer both. In-person courses are taught at our centres in Madrid, with supervised practice and small groups. Online courses are on the Templo del Masaje campus, available at any time with permanent access.

What qualification do I get at the end?

A certified Templo del Masaje diploma signed by the director, Maribel Corpa, with a unique QR code so it can be verified publicly. It is recognised by wellness centres and companies in the sector, and accredits the training received with us.

Do I need prior experience to sign up?

For basic courses, such as introduction to massage, no experience is needed. For the advanced ones —sports massage, manual lymphatic drainage or kobido— basic knowledge of anatomy and manual techniques is advisable.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes. On most courses we offer interest-free instalments; you choose this when you sign up.

Is there real hands-on practice during the course?

On in-person courses, yes: you practise with classmates and volunteer models, and every technique is given and received. Online courses include practice kits to work with family or friends, and detailed videos of each manoeuvre.
